Roberto Stagno

Vincenzo Andreoli Stagno (born October 11, 1840 in Palermo , † April 26, 1897 in Genoa ) was an Italian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Coming from a well-to-do family, Stagno studied law and completed musical training with Antonio Cantelli in Palermo and with Giovanni Battista Lamperti . In 1862 he made his debut in Lisbon as Rodrigo in Rossini's Otello . In 1856 he represented the famous Enrico Tamberlik in the title role of Giacomo Meyerbeer's opera Robert le Diable at the Teatro Real in Madrid with great success .

In 1868 he appeared at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater with the prima donna Désirée Artôt . In Italy he made his debut in 1870 at the Teatro Apollo , where he a. a. appeared in Meyerbeer's Huguenots , Verdi's Il trovatore and Rossini's Otello . In 1879 he made his first appearance in Buenos Aires, where he kept returning.

In 1883 Stagno married the soprano Gemma Bellincioni in Buenos Aires , with whom he frequently appeared from then on. Her daughter Bianca also became known as an opera singer. In the Metropolitan Opera's opening season 1883–84 he sang Enzo in the American premiere of Amilcare Ponchielli's La Gioconda .

With his wife he turned to the repertoire of Italian verismo . He sang Turiddu in the world premiere of Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana in 1890 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome. In the same year he took part in the world premiere of Nicola Spinelli's Labilia and Vincenzo Ferronis Rudello , in 1892 by Umberto Giordano's Mala Vita at the Teatro Argentina and in 1895 in Trieste by Antonio Smareglias Nozze Istriane . As a guest he appeared at this time u. a. at the Vienna Court Opera , the opera houses of Frankfurt, Zagreb and Brno and at the Berlin Kroll Opera .
