Gian-Reto Plattner
Gian-Reto Placidus Plattner (born December 10, 1939 in Zurich , † December 7, 2009 in Basel ; entitled to live in Untervaz ) was a Swiss physicist and politician ( SP ).
biography
The son of the chemist Placidus A. Plattner studied physics at the University of Basel , where he received his doctorate in 1967 and his habilitation in 1972. From 1984 he was associate professor for experimental physics at the University of Basel. From 2000 he was also Vice Rector for Research before he retired in 2005.
Between 1982 and 1991 he sat on the residents' council of Riehen and was its president from 1988 to 1990. From 1984 to 1992 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt ; from 1988 to 1992 he chaired the social democratic group there. He represented from 1991 to 2003 the canton of Basel-Stadt in the Senate and was in office 2002/03 Senate President .
