Gian Paolo Cavarai

Gian Paolo Cavarai (* 27. August 1939 in Jimma ) is an Italian diplomat in retirement .

Education

In 1962 he received the degree in Jurisprudence of the University La Sapienza .

Career

In 1967 he joined the foreign service. From 1970 to 1978 he was second class legation secretary in Ottawa , then first class legation secretary in Dublin . In 1978 he was employed in the Migration Department in Rome. In 1980 he became Counselor in Belgrade . In 1984 he became a first-class delegation councilor to the EU Commission in Brussels . In 1988 he headed the EU Commission department in Rome . In 1991 he was appointed Envoy Extraordinary and Ministre plénipotentiaire, second class. In 1992 he was diplomatic advisor to the finance minister and in 1993 he was deputy director of the trade department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Italy) , as well as deputy sherpa at the G7 summit in Tokyo in 1993 and strategic committee for the euro in the Roman ministry of finance . From 1998 to 2002 he was ambassador to Tel Aviv . From 2003 to 2005 he was ambassador to Athens .
