Gianpaolo Scarante

Gianpaolo SCARANTE (* 15. July 1950 in Venice ) is an Italian diplomat in retirement .

Career

He graduated with honors and honors in political science from the University of Padua and became an assistant at the Chair of International Law at the University of Padua. In 1975 he attended the diploma career preparation course at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Bologna , entered the foreign service and was employed at the Italian embassy in Tirana (Albania). Until 1986 he was consul in Dortmund . From 1986 he was Deputy Head of the Special Affairs Unit in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Italy) , responsible for international coordination and cooperation in the fight against terrorism . He headed the commercial department at the embassy in Tunis (Tunisia). He was then first class counselor in Rabat (Morocco). From 1998 he was the coordinator for the Central and Eastern European countries. He then headed Division IV Europe . He was then head of Department III. From October 2001 he was the office manager of the State Secretary for Foreign Affairs. Subsequently, he was the office manager of the foreign minister. From November 2002 he was additional diplomatic advisor to the President of the Council of Ministers . On November 29, 2004 he was also appointed Special Representative of the President of the Council of Ministers for the Balkans . From September 2005 he held the post of diplomatic advisor to the President of the Council of Ministers. From September 2006 to June 2010 he was ambassador to Athens . In the course of his administration he showed a remarkable openness to the historical responsibility of the office. From July 24, 2010 to 2013 he was ambassador to Ankara .
