The Gianettihütte ( Italian : Rifugio Luigi Gianetti or Rhaeto-Romanic Capanna Luigi Gianetti ) is a mountain hut of the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI) in Bergell . It is located at an altitude of 2534  m slm south of Piz Badile . Directly behind the Gianettihütte is the Capanna Attilio Piacco bivouac box , which is used as a winter room.

location

The Gianetti Hut is a stage destination on the Sentiero Roma high trail . Due to its location south of the granite walls of Piz Badile and Piz Cengalo, the hut is a popular starting point for climbing tours. The hut is also the goal of crossing Piz Badile.

history

Construction of the hut began in 1912. The Rifugio, built by the Milan Section of the CAI under the direction of Paolo Ferrario , was opened in the summer of 1913 . It was named in honor of the greatest sponsor Luigi Gianetti, a memorial plaque on the outer wall of the hut reminds of this. It was built just a few meters from the Capanna or Rifugio Badile, built in 1887, which was used as a dependance after it was built. During the First World War , the Alpini used the rifugio, which was set up for the occupation of the Cadorna line named after the Italian chief of staff Luigi Cadorna , as accommodation. In the 1920s, the Capanna Badile was rebuilt after an avalanche. During the Second World War , the Resistenza used the building, whereupon the Rifugio was set on fire by German troops and units of the RSI in 1944 . In 1949 the burnt down hut was rebuilt. In 1961 the Capanna Badile was renamed after the alpinist Attilio Piacco, who died in 1958 at the nearby Punta Torelli. The Rifugio Gianetti was modernized in the 1970s and 1990s.
