Gianpaolo Bellini (born March 27, 1980 in Sarnico ) is a former Italian football player who was under contract with Atalanta Bergamo throughout his career . He is the club's record player with over 430 cross-competition games.

Career

In the club

He learned to play football in the youth of Atalanta Bergamo . In 1997 he was accepted into the professional team of Atalanta Bergamo, but did not play a single game until the end of the season. In the 1998/99 season he played four games in Serie B for Atalanta Bergamo. In the 1999/00 season he was already used in twenty league games and made promotion to Serie A with Atalanta . He managed to stay in Serie A three years in a row with the club, but had to relegate to Serie B at the end of the 2002/03 season. In the following season, Gianpaolo Bellini played 30 games in Serie B and he got his first two professional goals, he succeeded with the Lombards the immediate rise. After a year in Italy's top division, he had to accept the last relegation to Serie B for the time being. Bergamo managed to get back on the rise again. On April 15, 2007, he scored his first goal in Serie A in the game against FC Turin . With 8th place in the championship, the best result in six years resulted. After the descent in 2010 , the direct resurgence followed .

Bellini ended his career in the summer of 2016. With a total of 396 league games for Atalanta Bergamo, Gianpaolo Bellini is in first place in the all-time ranking after he overtook the previous leader Stefano Angeleri , who played 317 league games for the Lombards in the 2010/11 season .

National team

Gianpaolo Bellini was a member of the squad of the Italian U-21 national team from 2000 to 2002. He played his first international game on August 16, 2000 against Mexico. He took part with Italy in the U-21 European Football Championship in Switzerland in 2002 and was used in all four Italian games. The team narrowly failed in the semifinals against the Czech Republic.

He was never considered for the senior national team .
