Giants: Citizen Kabuto , or Giants for short , is a computer game released by Planet Moon Studios in 2000.

action

The game is first about a group of mercenaries, including Baz as one of the main characters, who crashes with her spaceship and finds herself on a strange world. Once there, Baz quickly finds out that the so-called "Smarties" (small, weird creatures) are being terrorized and suppressed by the "Reapers" and "Sea-Reapers".

Since Baz is a "good guy", he wants to get rid of this problem. To do this, however, he first has to find his friends all over the world. After doing that, he goes on the attack with his four friends and two Smarties and wants to kill the evil Sea Reaper Queen; in the process they meet the wonderful daughter of the queen, who is called Delphi and who does not at all agree with the nature of her mother's rule. Baz immediately falls in love with Delphi and so they fight together against the evil queen.

After the player with Baz has made his contribution to the liberation of the Smarties, you take control of Delphi to kill the queen with her. In contrast to the mercenaries, who rely on jetpacks, invisibility shields and other technical stuff, Delphi relies on a saber and different types of bows, and with the "power-ups" on spells of all strengths such as. B. a time stop bubble or a gigantic tornado .

The namesake Kabuto has not been mentioned until now . This is called by the evil queen to protect her, but after her death he freaks completely and runs amok. To stop him, Delphi transforms into a Kabuto clone. Kabuto is a gigantic monster that pulps or eats anything that gets in its way. His weapons are all natural: paws, feet, teeth and his whole body. In addition, Kabuto can have two “small” children who obey his word. His other weapons include gigantic stones that lie around the world and that he uses as projectiles. And finally, it can also focus a laser beam with a kind of lens and use it as a ranged weapon.

history

The game was developed by former Shiny Entertainment employees who founded the Planet Moon Studio. The game stood out in 2000 mainly for its outstanding graphics, but also for the high hardware requirements to achieve this. Furthermore, the gameplay is relatively free and the playing time is relatively long, with a noteworthy replay value. Also known for many bugs and imbalances, after the last official patch, the player community tried to fix these deficiencies as part of fan patches . In September 2009 Giants was republished in digital distribution at gog.com .

successor

On September 25, 2015, Rogue Rocket Games, founded by former Planet Moon Studios employees, launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund an unofficial successor named First Wonder . After the failure of the campaign, Rogue Rocket Games announced the end of the project in an email to all supporters on February 19, 2016. The attempt to realize First Wonder with the help of investors also failed.
