Gibeauxiella reliqua is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of cosmopterigidae (Cosmopterigidae).

features

The moths have a wingspan of 11 millimeters. The head and forehead ( frons ) are yellowish white, the vertex ( vertex ) is creamy white. The antennae are ringed brown and creamy white. The thorax is bright brown. The tegulae are also bright brown and ocher on the sides and back. The forewings are glossy brown and roughly scaled. The middle of the outermost wing base is marked with a small, creamy-white spot. At 1/5 of the fore wing length a creamy white band runs obliquely outwards. It does not extend to the inner edge of the wing. Two creamy white costal spots are at half and 4/5 of the forewing length. The outer spot is larger. The inner corner is provided with a large, round, cream-white spot. The fringed scales are dark gray-brown, at the apex they are dark brown and become paler towards the inner corner. The hind wings are gray-brown and have a golden sheen. The fringed scales are gray-brown. The abdomen is glossy gray-brown, the anal tuft gray.

In males, the right brachium is curved in front of the apex. The left brachium tapers abruptly distally to a sharp point. The valves are lobed and have no pronounced appendages or indentations. They are slightly asymmetrical, the right valve has a small tooth at the tip. The valvellae are spatulate and slightly curved outwards. The right valvella is larger than the left. There are other extensions of the same length, the right one is elongated and triangular, the left one is parallel-walled. The aedeagus is short and arched and gradually tapers distally.

Similar species

Gibeauxiella reliqua differs from the similar species Gibeauxiella bellaqueifontis in the absence of the second cream-white spot on the inner edge of the forewing, the small spot on the wing tip, the ocher-colored drawing elements and the protruding tufts of scales. The hind wings are a little darker.

distribution

Gibeauxiella reliqua has so far only been found in France ( Forêt de Fontainebleau ).

biology

The only known specimen of the species was collected in early May on the lying trunk of an old European beech ( Fagus sylvatica ).
