Giga Tetsuji

Giga Tetsuji ( Japanese : 儀 峨 徹 二 ; born April 29, 1885 in Fukui Prefecture ; † January 27, 1965 ) was a Japanese lieutenant general in the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force .

Life

Giga Tetsuji attended Wakasa High School in Fukui Prefecture and then began training at the Army Officer School (Rikugun Shikan Gakkō) , which he finished in May 1907. He was then taken on as a lieutenant in the 20th  Infantry Regiment and later found employment as an officer in the 67th Infantry Regiment. He then attended the Army College (Rikugun Daigakkō) , which he graduated in November 1914. In August 1915 he became an officer in the General Staff of the Imperial Japanese Army (Dai-Nippon Teikoku Rikugun) and in March 1917 completed an English course at the School for Foreign Languages ​​in Tokyo . Then he was again an officer in the general staff and then an employee in the Army Ministry (Rikugun-shō) , before he moved to the headquarters of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force (Teikoku Rikugun Kōkūtai) founded in January 1919 .

After Giga was promoted to major in the infantry in August 1922 , he became an employee of the representative at the League of Nations between November 1922 and September 1924 . After his return he was formally transferred to the Army Air Force and was initially aide-de-camp of the 7th Army Aviation Squadron and then an officer in the personnel department. On June 8, 1926, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , whereupon he became commander of a battalion of the 4th Army Aviation Squadron in December 1926 . Then he was an instructor at the Shishizu Army Aviation School and at the Akeno Army Aviation School, where he was head of the research section from March 6, 1930 to January 28, 1931. He was promoted to colonel on August 1, 1930 and served as the military representative in Thailand between January 28, 1931 and March 11, 1932 . After his return he was commodore of the 1st Army Aviation Squadron and was then secretary of the Akeno Army Aviation School.

Giga Tetsuji was promoted to major general on August 1, 1935 and was then seconded to the Tokorozawa Army Aviation School between August and December 2, 1935 , before he was commander of the Kumagai Army Aviation School from December 2, 1935 to August 1, 1936 . He then acted from August 1936 to March 9, 1938 as the commander of the 1st Army Aviation Brigade and between March 9 and November 28, 1938 as the commander of the Shimoshidzu Army Aviation School. After he was promoted to lieutenant general on July 15, 1938 , he was commanding general of the 2nd Army Aviation Group between November 28, 1938 and August 1, 1940, and then commander from August 1, 1940 to October 15, 1941 the Hamamatsu Army Aviation School. He was transferred to the reserve on October 15, 1941 and retired two weeks later on October 30, 1941. At the end of the Second World War , he was ordered back into active service in March 1945 and was then commander of the military district of Fukui Prefecture until the surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945.
