The giant tomb Su Monte de s'Ape (also Su Monte 'e S'Abe ) is located southwest of the Olbia - Costa Smeralda airport in the province of Sassari in Gallura on Sardinia . The buildings called “Tumbas de los zigantes” and ( Italian Tombe dei Giganti - plur.) In Sardu are the largest prenuraghic cult structures in Sardinia and are among the latest megalithic structures in Europe . The 321 known giant tombs are monuments of the Bronze Age Bonnanaro culture (2,200–1,600 BC), which is a precursor to the Nuragic culture .
Type sequence
Structurally, giant tombs appear in two variants. The systems with portal steles and exedra are of the older type. In later systems, the exedra consists of processed and layered stone blocks instead of a square façade that is significantly higher in the middle . The giant grave at Su Monte de s'Ape is an older type (with a portal stele).

description
At the front, the megalithic complex is bounded by the exedra , a semicircle of high erect stones. In the middle there was a granite stele , at the foot of which there was a small opening that serves as access to the chamber. This only partially preserved stele and three others of the once ten stones of the exedra are no longer present, while the chamber and its alterations are almost complete.
The approximately 28.0 m long and six meters wide facility is one of the largest on the island. The ten meter long chamber of the monument comes from the Bronze Age Bonnanaro culture (1800–1500 BC). It consists of stones that are not particularly well processed. Some ceiling tiles also date from this time. During the Nuragic era (from 1500 BC) the building was given new architectural elements. The facade and the chamber cladding probably date from this era. The monument, restored in 1968, was probably covered with a mound of earth and stones in the chamber area.
In the immediate vicinity is the Castello Pedres (e) from 1296. A little further away is the Villa Romana S'Imbalconadu.
