Type series of Sardinian-Corsican monuments

The giant tomb of Troculu (also called Genna Troculu) is located northwest of Villagrande Strisaili in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia , but not in its original location. It was dismantled during the construction of the Nuoro-Lanusei expressway and rebuilt. The buildings called "Tumbas de los zigantes" and ( Italian Tombe dei Giganti ) in Sardu are the largest prenuraghic cult structures in Sardinia and are among the latest megalithic structures in Europe . The 321 known giant tombs are monuments of the Bronze Age Bonnanaro culture (2,200–1,600 BC), which is a precursor to the Nuragic culture . Troculu was dismantled for the construction of the Nuoro - Lanusei expressway and reassembled nearby.

Type sequence

Structurally, giant tombs appear in two variants. The systems with portal steles and exedra are of the older type. In later systems, the exedra consists of a square facade, significantly raised in the middle, made of processed and layered stone blocks. The giant grave of Trculu is a newer type (with a square facade), but with an older central stele (of unknown origin).

description

The giant grave has a chamber made of granite blocks of various sizes, arranged in irregular rows, with a maximum height of 1.0 m and a width of 0.50 m. The entrance to the chamber is in the southeast and consists of a granite slab with a doorway, which originally belonged to a portal stele ( Italian stele bilitica ) of the older design. The entrance leads into a short corridor (length 1.35 m; width 0.6 m), which opens into the rectangular chamber (length 9.5 m, width 1.35 m, height 1.6 m). The approximately 14.5 m wide exedra is unusually deep with a depth of approximately 8.0 m and consists of a cuboid structure of which only two rows have been preserved.

In the vicinity are two nuraghi and the giant tombs Pradu Su Chiai and Sa Carcaredda .
