Gija , Chinese Jizi , was the founder of the Korean Gija-Joseon dynasty. He lived in the 12th century BC. Chr.

According to Chinese sources, Gija was an uncle of the tyrant Zhou , the last king of the Shang dynasty . When the dynasty fell, he was imprisoned and released by the Zhou King Wu. Not wanting to live under the new dynasty, he moved to what is now North Korea with 5,000 followers and founded his own kingdom there.
