Gilbert Bishop , born as Gilbert Bischoff (born March 16, 1946 in Darmstadt ) is a German singer and musician .

Life

Gilbert grew up in Chicago and Darmstadt, attended school there and trained as a sheet metal worker .

In 1961, Bishop played as bassist and singer in the band The Pralins, which he and drummer Manfred Meister founded . Wolfgang Göhle and Klaus Weicker joined the band as guitarists. In 1965 the band recorded their first LP entitled Beat with the Pralins . In the same year the second LP followed with the title Beat Beat Beat . The two LPs were in 2004 by Bear Family Records as a CD reissued. In 2000 the author Hans-Jürgen Klitsch wrote in detail about Gilbert and The Pralins in his book Shakin 'All Over . In 1970 Gilbert was offered a contract with Ralph Siegel and together they recorded the songs Kookoorookookoo and Heartbeat .

On October 1, 1971, Bishop got a new artist contract with the Phonogram Tongesellschaft, with which the titles Let me pray for love and There are stones on every road were recorded. With Let me pray for love , Gilbert and the Rocky Till Singers achieved second place in the qualifying round for the Eurovision Song Contest in St. Moritz in 1972 .

On October 27, 1971 Gilbert Bishop was hired as a solo singer and dancer for the musical Happy Journey . From 1974 to 2007 Gilbert worked as a DJ and restaurateur .

On October 25, 2007 he got a record deal with Soundstarrecords, where the CDs Seasons of Music , Music Meets Christmas and 2017 Seasons of Soul were released.

Gilbert Bishop has lived in Munich since 1970 , had a bar in Hohenbrunn near Munich and was singer and front man for the rock band Vollgas Jonny for five years . In 2012 he founded the soul band Soulissimo together with the pianist Robert Mares and is the singer and front man in this band.
