history
Gilgamesh was founded in 1972 by keyboardist Alan Gowen . The other members were Mike Travis (drums), Rick Morcombe (guitar), Jeff Clyne (bass) and Alan Wakeman (saxophone).
After a few line-up changes, they got a record deal in 1975 and released their debut album with Gowen, Travis, Phil Lee (guitar), Steve Cook (bass) and Peter Lemer as the second keyboardist.
In mid-1975, Alan Gowen and Dave Stewart of Hatfield and the North formed the new band National Health , and Gilgamesh was disbanded a little later.
1977 Gowen left National Health to bring Gilgamesh back to life. The band's second album was created in 1978 with Gowen, Lee, Trevor Tomkins (drums) and Hugh Hopper (bass). After that, Gilgamesh dissolved for good.
2000 Cuneiform Records released the album Arriving Twice with previously unreleased material by Gilgamesh from 1973-75.
