Gilles Laheurte
Gilles Marie-Paul Laheurte (* 1946 in Lyon ) is a French architect, photographer, author, record producer and jazz musician ( soprano saxophone , percussion).
Live and act
Laheurte grew up in Germany and Austria (1947–1964) and began playing the trumpet at the age of eight ; at the age of 18 he learned the trombone. He attended the École d'Architecture de Strasbourg for two years. In 1966 he moved to New York, where he studied at Columbia University (graduated in 1972). In the 1970s he worked as an architect for private clients; from the end of the decade he worked for international organizations in Africa and Haiti for the next 25 years; from 1979 to 1986 he lived in Tanzania, Kenya, Haiti and Rwanda. In 2004 he founded HARMONIS International , a consulting company that deals with the planning of sustainable development in the development context ( Habitat, Architecture, Monitoring, and Infrastructures = HARMONIS).
Laheurte also worked as a translator and author, photographer and musician. He represented Steve Lacy 's Senator Records label and Editions Fortuna in the United States . He wrote for Jazz Improv NY magazine , wrote a book about Steve Lacy 's Japan tour ( Let's Call This: The Bath , 2001) and a number of liner notes (including for Steve Lacy's album Snips: Live at Environ (2000) and for Ken Filiano & Quantum Entanglements: Dreams from a Clown Car , 2010).
As a musician, he was active in Haiti as a member of an amateur quintet (1982-84), which mostly played Dixieland jazz . During his stay in Rwanda, he studied music theory and was self- taught with the soprano and sopranino saxophone, bass clarinet , mbira , cymbals, gongs and other percussion. and gave a solo concert on the soprano saxophone in Kigali in 1986 . In New York City in 2004 he worked on a Steve Lacy tribute project and released several solo albums. As an associate producer, he was involved in the release of the Steve Lacy CD Ten of Dukes and Six Originals (Senators Records, 2002); He also produced several music DVDs by Steve Lacy ( Monk's Dream Live at Iridium , 2002, ed. 2008, and Monksiland 2004) and by u. a. Michael Attias , Kevin Norton , Will Holshouser and Tony Malaby .
