Gino Lettieri (born December 23, 1966 in Zurich , Switzerland ) is a former German - Italian soccer player and today's soccer coach . Since 2016 he has been playing at SV Gesees in the Bayreuth-Kulmbach district league. He coached the Polish first division club Korona Kielce until the beginning of September 2019 .

Player career

Gino Lettieri grew up in Munich and went through the youth department of TSV 1860 Munich . When he was 16, he was so badly injured in an accident in his knee that he was out for two and a half years. Lettieri made the leap into the second team and received a one-year contract for the first team after strong performances. However, since his knee could no longer withstand the increased stresses of daily training as a result of the accident injuries, he had to forego a professional career and ended his active career with the amateur clubs TSV Ampfing , FC Wacker Munich and FC Falke Markt Schwaben .

Coaching career

After working as a player-coach for an amateur team from 1993, Lettieri worked for TSV 1860 Munich from 1994 to 1997 as an amateur manager, assistant coach and stand-by player. Then he coached the Bayern league club FC Bayern Hof for three years and from 2000 to 2002 FC Augsburg , with whom he was promoted to the then third-class Regionalliga Süd in 2002 . After working for Bonner SC , Gino Lettieri took over SpVgg Bayreuth from 2003 to 2006 , with which he also rose to the regional league. After a brief engagement with SV Darmstadt 98 , he was responsible for the team of the second division Wacker Burghausen together with sports manager Fred Arbinger until the end of the 2006/07 season . In December 2007 he became a coach at SpVgg Weiden in the now fifth-class Bayernliga and in the 2008/09 season he made promotion to the regional league with the team.

On February 9, 2010, he dissolved his contract to move to the relegation-threatened SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the 3rd division . There Lettieri started with three defeats in a row, but managed to stay with the team on matchday 35. After a good start to the season, Lettieri extended his contract, which was initially concluded until the end of the season, to June 30, 2013, and at the end of the season reached fourth place in the table, just one point behind the relegation position. In the following season, the team previously chosen by the coaches of the league competitors to the top favorites for promotion could not meet the high expectations and was after 24 completed games in 13th place, which is why Lettieri was released on February 15, 2012. On February 24, 2014, Lettieri was introduced as assistant coach by Norbert Meier at the second division club Arminia Bielefeld .

In the summer of 2014 Lettieri became head coach at the then third division club MSV Duisburg . During the 2014/15 season, MSV was the only team other than VfL Wolfsburg to remain unbeaten in all league home games and secured promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga one match day before the end of the season. After persistent sporting failures, Lettieri was released from his coaching duties on November 1, 2015 after a 1-0 defeat at TSV 1860 Munich .

The FSV Frankfurt presented him on March 7, 2017 as the successor to Roland Vrabec . He received a contract until the end of the season to create relegation in the 3rd division. After this failed, Lettieri had to leave the club at the end of the season. At the end of May 2017 he signed a contract with the Polish first division club Korona Kielce . At the beginning of September 2019, Lettieri was released in Kielce after four defeats in a row.

Gino Lettieri is married and has two children.
