Occurrence
The gorse summer root is common in western and central Europe as well as in northwest Africa and Turkey. It grows in broom heaths and light forests at heights of up to 900 m. It prefers fresh, lime-poor and nutrient-poor mostly sandy or pure clay soils. In Central Europe, it is a character species of the Sarothamnenion sub-association from the Pruno-Rubion-fruticosi association of bushes.
