Gintautas Iešmantas

Gintautas Iešmantas (born January 1, 1930 in Šūkliai near Kybartai , Vilkaviškis district ; † September 4, 2016 ) was a Lithuanian politician and writer .

Life

From 1937 to 1943 he learned in Griškabūdis in the Rajongemeinde Šakiai and from 1944 to 1949 in Šakiai . From 1949 to 1953 he completed his diploma studies in Lithuanian language and literature at the Vilniaus pedagoginis institutas and became a teacher. From 1953 to 1970 he worked as a correspondent for the newspapers “Lietuvos pionierius”, “Tarybinis mokytojas”, “ Liaudies sargyboje ”, and from 1972 to 1974 as head of the editorial department at “ Komjaunimo tiesa ”. In 1980 he was arrested and convicted of anti-Soviet activity. The imprisonment had he at Oblast Perm , in Rajon chusovoy . From 1986 to 1988 he was expelled to Komi and given an amnesty in 1988. From 1990 to 1991 he was editor of “ Lietuvos žinios ” and from 1990 to 1992 deputat in the Seimas .

From 1989 he was a member of the LSDP .
