Gio (born April 24, 1990 ; bourgeois Giovanni Gartner ) is a German rapper , live streamer , web video producer and former battle rapper from Berlin .

Career

Beginnings

Gio grew up without a father, his mother received unemployment benefit II . In April 2006 he opened his Youtube channel Giovannio . There he first posted personal songs on topics such as love. Laut.de described these songs as "deep heartbreak lyrics". Then Gio switched to battle rap and took part in the video battle tournament. In his first VBT in 2011 he reached the 64th final, while other well-known rappers were often eliminated in one of the preliminary rounds when they participated. In the VBT 2012 he took part again and caused a stir by defeating the rapper ÉSMaticx in the 64th final . The video has over two million views on YouTube and made Gio famous.

Battle rap time

His final breakthrough was his participation in Julien's BlogBattle . In 2013 he made it to the finals, where he lost to SpongeBOZZ . There was a beef between Gio and SpongeBOZZ because SpongeBOZZ showed fake Nazi photos of Gio. In 2014 Gio won the JBB, but lost to SpongeBOZZ in the King Final. Gio didn't submit the second half of the season but gave up when SpongeBOZZ submitted a 34-minute battle round that was viewed over 20 million times. At the end of the 34-minute battle, SpongeBOZZ also accused Gio of pedophilia and sexual abuse . Gio received a particularly negative response and threats to these allegations, which were only made up for the battle. Gio spoke to SpongeBOZZ and Julien , the organizers of the JuliensBlogBattle, whereupon SpongeBOZZ revised his statements and offered him a rap part in a mammoth remix. On the joint part in the Mammut remix, they were called God (SpongeBOZZ) and King (Gio) of Battle. After this successful collaboration, they became good friends. In the 2015 King Final, Gio won against EnteTainment .

Measured by YouTube clicks, Gio's greatest success was the disstrack “No Rapper”, which was uploaded in May 2015 , in which Gio criticized the commercial and soulless style of LionT and Dagi Bee . "No Rapper" has been viewed 8.2 million times so far and triggered a wave of further disstracks against LionT, for example from 4tune . There was also a falling out between Gio and KC Rebell because he was working with Dagi Bee. LionT was unable to respond adequately to the diss and its image was permanently damaged.

Brothers Battle

Gio has a younger brother who is also active as a rapper under the pseudonym Casa . In the second round of July BlogBattle 2014 there was a battlerap duel between the two brothers, which Gio won. The brothers appeared in the opposing group in the music video and as guest rappers. The two siblings have agreed outside of the battle that Gio should win so that he has another chance to win the season of the tournament, to receive the so-called King title and to play against SpongeBozz again (in the King final ), so they created a corresponding concept for the two rounds.

After the battle rap time

At the end of 2016, Gio announced the end of his battle rap career. He now wants to turn to more soulful and personal texts: “I don't feel like dissing a few idiots, just so maybe a few million click here, because what's the point if children see me here, but in the end I'm not behind it . ”As a result, there is a lot of real talk on his album“ Payday ”, which was released in March 2017 after the release date had been postponed a few times . “Payday” charted in 46th place in Germany.
