Liont (born October 16, 1992 in Solingen ; actually Timoteo Micael Gonzalez Gonzalez ) is a German - Spanish rapper , singer and operator of the YouTube channel LIONTTV .

biography

Gonzalez started rapping when he was 13. At the age of 16 he made his own songs available on MySpace and opened his YouTube channel Liont TV in 2011 , where he also published music videos. However, he became popular primarily with his videos on everyday topics of a young person. Within a year it reached 300,000 subscribers and won the “Newcomer of the Year” award at the 2013 Videodays . Two years later, the number of his channel subscribers had risen to over 1.4 million, making him one of the top 20 German YouTube channels. His most popular video at the moment, 15 ways to kiss! was listed with over 7.5 million views, almost two dozen other videos were over the million mark.

In addition to vlogs and comedy videos, Liont also works on music videos such as Turn Back Time . Gonzalez recorded the song Against the Rest of the World with internet musician Kayef in 2012 , which received over 5 million views. A year later, the joint album Sexstreetboys was released. He was featured as a guest on Kayef Relict's first label album last night , their song Never again nobody became the pre-release single and was able to place in the charts in Germany and Austria. A second publication followed three weeks later, Komm mit , which was able to position itself a little better.

For 2015 Liont prepared his own debut album titled Löwenkind . On January 23, he released the song Doppelkinn in advance as a video and as a single. In his internet videos he flirts with his own double chin. It rose to number eight in the German iTunes charts, reached number 33 in the German music charts and number 20 in the Austrian Ö3 Austria Top 40 . His album received mostly negative reviews.

In addition to its main channel, Liont has been operating a second YouTube channel called LionTVlog since October 2012 , which has around half a million subscribers. He has almost two million subscribers on Instagram . From 2011 to 2015 he was in a relationship with web video producer Dagi Bee .

In 2015 he worked in the movie Brother before Luder .

criticism

Liont had to take a lot of criticism, especially from the German rap scene. For him, it's not about music, but about generating the highest possible income through product placement at the expense of his predominantly underage fans. The rapper Gio wrote a Disstrack against Liont that was accessed 7.5 million times, followed by a Disstrack by the rapper 4Tune . The Liont album Löwenkind took the top spot on a list of the “Top 30 most hated albums of 2015” compiled by the magazine laut.de. The scene magazine rap.de judged the album Löwenkind: “You can also hear Liont's lack of routine, the half-baked voice and the poor tact. In every song. "

Margarete Stokowski criticizes Liont in her book "Unterrum frei" because of misogynistic statements.
