Giorgio Holzmann (born January 21, 1957 in Bozen ) is an Italian politician from South Tyrol .

biography

Holzmann joined the youth organization of the neo-fascist party Movimento Sociale Italiano (MSI) at the age of 13 . Professionally he worked as an insurance inspector. From 1985 to 1988 he represented the MSI in the Bolzano municipal council. In the municipal council elections in 2000 and 2005 he was a candidate for the successor party Alleanza Nazionale (AN), and in 2010 for the Popolo della Libertà (PdL). However, after the successful elections, he renounced his seat on the local council.

Holzmann was elected in 1988, 1993, 1998 and 2003 for the MSI and later the AN in the South Tyrolean state parliament and thus at the same time the regional council of Trentino-South Tyrol . From 2003 to 2006 he was Vice President of the State Parliament. In the 2006 parliamentary elections , Holzmann won a seat in the Italian Chamber of Deputies for the Casa delle Libertà alliance and subsequently resigned as a member of the state and regional council. In the early parliamentary elections in 2008 , he was re-elected as a candidate for the PdL.

In the 2013 parliamentary elections , Holzmann, as the top candidate of Fratelli d'Italia , tried to reapply for a mandate for the Chamber of Deputies, but the party could not prove enough support votes to be allowed to vote in the multi-person constituency of Trentino-Alto Adige . He subsequently entered the Senate single-constituency of Bolzano, but was clearly defeated by Francesco Palermo , the joint candidate of the South Tyrolean People's Party and Partito Democratico . In the state elections in 2013, a candidacy failed due to formal errors. He took up one last political mandate in 2016, when the Alleanza per Bolzano alliance he founded won 2 of the 45 seats in the Bolzano municipal council. However, only four months after the election, Holzmann resigned his seat and withdrew from politics.
