Gioseffo Guami
Gioseffo Guami (also Gioseffo Guammi , Giuseppe Guami ; born January 27, 1542 in Lucca , † around 1611 ibid) was an Italian organist and composer .
Live and act
Nothing certain is known about Gioseffo Guami's youth and education, but he is said to have stayed in Venice between 1550 and 1560 , where he was a student of Adrian Willaert and Annibale Padovano . In 1568 he moved to Munich , where he was appointed court organist. Orlando di Lasso was Kapellmeister at the ducal court at that time . Guami worked here until around 1579. Between 1588 and 1591 he was the first organist at San Marco in Venice, after which he returned to his hometown, where he also worked as organist at the cathedral until his death . There the later well-known composer and music theorist Adriano Banchieri (1568–1634) was one of his students.
In addition to madrigals , masses and motets , he created a number of works for organ and was one of the first composers of pure instrumental music of his time.
His brother Francesco Guami (around 1544–1601) and his sons Domenico (1583–1631), Vincenzo (1585–1615) and Valerio (1587–1649) were also talented composers.
