Giovane Gávio (born September 7, 1970 in Juiz de Fora ) is a former Brazilian volleyball and beach volleyball player .

Career

Since 1989 Giovane played in the Brazilian national team , with which he won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . In 1993 he won the world league and was named the most valuable player. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he finished fifth with the national team. At the side of his national team colleague Tande , Giovane also played beach volleyball from 1997 to 2000. In 1999 Giovane / Tande took 25th place at the World Championships in Marseille . In 2000 Giovane returned to indoor volleyball and reached sixth place at the Olympic Games in Sydney . His career has now taken off again: in 2002 Giovane became world champion in Argentina , 2003 world cup winner in Japan and, as a highlight, 2004 Olympic champion again in Athens . He then ended his active career and worked as a coach in the Brazilian Super League.
