Giovanni Maria Morlaiter (also Gianmaria ; born February 15 or 16, 1700 in Venice ; † February 22, 1781 there , according to the Venetian calendar ( more veneto ) February 15/16, 1699 - February 22, 1780) was a Venetian sculptor of the Baroque .

Life

His father came to Venice in the 17th century as a glass blower from Niederdorf in the Puster Valley . His son Michelangelo Morlaiter, born December 23, 1729, was also a well-known artist in Venice. He lived with his sons, the painter Michelangelo and the sculptor Gregorio, at the Traghetto di San Mosè in Venice, where he died on the night of February 22, 1780.

Works

Numerous works are in the church of Santa Maria del Rosario (Gesuati) in Venice. The marble bas-relief of Field Marshal Johann Matthias von der Schulenburg from 1747, which is located in the large atrium of the Venice Arsenal, comes from him .
