The Poozies are a folk rock group from England made up exclusively of female musicians . They play a mix of Cajun , Folk , Blues , Country and Rock .

history

In 1990 the singer Sally Barker hired the harpists Mary MacMaster and Patsy Seddon, who at the time formed the Scottish harp duo Sìleas , for her new solo album. The three became friends and took a liking to the idea of forming an all-women folk band. Sally Barker met accordionist Karen Tweed during the Hong Kong Folk Festival. She was enthusiastic about the idea of forming a band, and when Jenny Gardner joined the four women with her fiddle shortly afterwards, The Poozies were born. Jenny Gardner left the group before the first album Chantoozies was recorded.

Kate Rusby replaced Sally Barker in 1996, who now wanted to devote more time to her family as the new lead singer. In this formation, the band recorded two more albums until, in 2001, Kate Rusby decided to leave The Poozies in order to pursue her solo career. Eilidh Shaw was hired as a singer and fiddler for Kate.

The Poozies are a quintet again since Sally Barker stepped in for the pregnant Eilidh Shaw on a tour in 2006 and stayed with the band after their return. In 2007 accordionist Mairearad Green was recruited by the band Unusual Suspects and has since played for Karen Tweed, who left the same year.

In April 2012 Patsy Saddon left the quintet to devote more time to her new trio, Madge Wildfire , and to have more time for the main organization of the Edinburgh Harp Festival .
