Girolamo Genga

Girolamo Genga (spr. Dschenga), (* around 1476 in Urbino ; † August 11 or July 11, 1551 ibid) was an Italian painter , architect and sculptor .

Life

Genga learned from Luca Signorelli and Perugino , painted with Timoteo Vite in Urbino in the chapel of San Martino in the episcopal palace and then went to Rome, where he painted a resurrection of Christ for the church of Santa Caterina da Siena and did a lot with drawing and measuring ancient times Building work, about which he left a handwritten work.

Called back to Urbino by Duke Francesco Maria , he later followed him into exile in Cesena , where, among other things, the panel God the Father with Mary and the four Church Fathers was created (now in the Brera in Milan ). After the Duke returned to Urbino, Genga built a palace for him on Mount dell'Imperiale . He also provided the plans for the church of San Giovanni Battista in Pesaro , the monastery of the Zoccolanti, an order of minor brothers of the Franciscans , in Monte Berico and the bishop's palace in Senigallia . In terms of sculptures, he created an angel for the Castle dell'Imperiale and the models for drinking dishes for the Duke of Urbino and the Bishop of Senigallia.

His son Bartolomeo Genga was also a painter, architect and sculptor. Baldassare Lanci was one of his students .
