Gisela Arendt , after marriage to Gisela Jacob , (born November 5, 1918 in Berlin , † February 18, 1969 in Bonn ) was a German swimmer who won two medals at the 1936 Olympic Games .

Gisela Arendt swam for Nixe Charlottenburg until the Second World War , after the war she competed as Gisela Jacob for the Swimming and Sportfreunde Bonn in 1905 . Her brother Heinz Arendt finished seventh in the 1500 meter freestyle at the 1936 Olympic Games, and her son Rainer Jacob took sixth place in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay in 1972.

From 1933 to 1937 she won the German championship in 100 meter freestyle swimming five times in a row. At the European Swimming Championships in Magdeburg in 1934 , she finished second behind the Dutch Hendrika Mastenbroek over 100 meters back . In the 100 meter freestyle, Arendt came third behind Willy den Ouden and Mastenbroek. With the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay consisting of Ruth Halbsguth , Ingrid Ohliger , Hilde Salbert and Gisela Arendt, she won the silver medal behind the Dutch women. At the Olympic Games in 1936, Arendt was not only defeated by Mastenbroek in the 100-meter freestyle race , but also by the Argentinean Jeanette Campbell . The freestyle relay with Ruth Halbsguth, Leni Lohmar , Ingeborg Schmitz and Gisela Arendt won silver behind the Dutch women. In 1939 Gisela Arendt won her sixth German championship title over 100 meters freestyle.

After the war and after the birth of Rainer Jacob, Gisela Jacob was able to win the German championship title again in 1949 after a ten-year break. At the Olympic Games in 1952 , Gisela Jacob reached the finals with the relay and finished in seventh place.
