Gisela Schmalz

Gisela Schmalz (* 1970 ) is a German economist and journalist.

biography

Schmalz studied economics and philosophy at the WHU Vallendar and the Rhenish Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . She also studied at Columbia University in New York and received a grant from the German Research Foundation . With a thesis on the emergence of US economics, she was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. PhD.

Schmalz worked as an actress, presenter, film critic, film marketer, producer of documentaries and scientific television reports. At the Institute for Media and Communication Policy (IfM) in Berlin and within the framework of the Google Collaboratory, Berlin, she researched the effects of the Internet of new technologies on society. Her research focuses on management strategies, technology group development, trend and future research, and business ethics.

As an author, Schmalz has published in print, online and on TV. Schmalz has been professor for strategic management and business ethics at the Rheinische Fachhochschule in Cologne since 2006 . In addition to her teaching activities, she is involved in the conception and development of the database on international media groups within the framework of the Institute for Media and Communication Policy, Berlin, of which she is a fellow. In addition, she is responsible for the scientific working group of the research project Ethical-Ecological Rating in Frankfurt am Main .

In her book No Economy , she criticizes the free culture on the Internet . In their view, the practice of free supply and demand leads to quality losses in the long run. Trading at "zero tariff" results in an unfair economic distribution. Data from online companies would be stored, processed and sold, i.e. only monetized by a few companies.

On his mother's side, Schmalz is related to Ernst von Salomon , the author of “ The Questionnaire ” (1951).
