Gisela Schneider-Herrmann

Gisela Schneider-Herrmann (born September 1, 1893 in Berlin ; † 1992 ) was a German-Dutch classical archaeologist .

From 1916 to 1920 she studied philology, art history and archeology. Since 1920 she lived with her husband, the German-Jewish trader for tropical fruits Georg Schneider, in the Netherlands . In the early 1930s they spent a few years in Hamburg , where Gisela Schneider-Herrmann continued her studies. From 1933 they lived in Rotterdam and Gisela studied at times classical archeology with Constant Willem Lunsingh Scheurleer (1881-1941) at the University of Leiden . In 1939 she and her husband became Dutch citizens and lived in The Hague . From 1942 to 1945 she lived in hiding during the German occupation of the Netherlands , her husband stayed in India.

She mainly dealt scientifically with the Lower Italian vase painting . She also put together a collection of ancient works of art, which she published in 1975 and donated to the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden in Leiden in 1992 , where it had already been hidden during the war.

In the 1950s she published on Stefan George and Hölderlin in the vicinity of the Castrum Peregrini .
