Gisela Stang

Gisela Stang (born November 26, 1969 in Hofheim am Taunus , Hesse ) is a German politician ( SPD ). She was mayor of the city ​​of Hofheim until September 12, 2019 , since 2009 she has been deputy state chairwoman of the SPD Hessen and since 2001 a member of the district council of the Main-Taunus district.

education and profession

Gisela Stang grew up in Hofheim am Taunus. She attended the Pestalozzi and Elisabeth Schools in the district town up to secondary school . At the Georg-Kerschensteiner-Schule in Bad Homburg , she passed the Abitur in 1989 with a qualification as a mathematical-technical assistant .

This was followed by a German studies course with minor subjects sociology and political science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , which Stang successfully completed as a Magistra. Immediately afterwards, she completed a postgraduate course with a focus on business and marketing at the University of Cape Town (South Africa).

After her return to Germany, Stang worked in the communications department of a German insurance company and then as a project manager for a PR and marketing agency in Frankfurt am Main . In 1998 she became a personal advisor to the then Hessian Minister for Science and Art Christine Hohmann-Dennhardt .

Political party

Stang has been a member of the SPD since 1997.

After the change of government in Hesse in 1999 , Stang resigned from the state service and became a full-time research assistant in the SPD parliamentary group of the state capital Wiesbaden for the areas of planning, construction and transport, the environment, health and public participation.

In the mayoral election in Hofheim in 2001 she prevailed with 50.1% of the valid votes against her competitor Gerd Czunczeleit ( CDU ). On September 13, 2001, at the age of 31, she became the youngest mayor in Hesse at the time. Furthermore, since the Second World War, she has been the first mayor who is not a member of the CDU and the first woman ever to hold this office. In 2007 she was re-elected in the first ballot against two competitors with 52.0% of the vote. Also in 2013 Stang ran for this office and was re-elected with 54.5% of the valid votes.

Stang is social affairs officer and treasurer of the city of Hofheim and has made important structural changes in many social areas of the city of Hofheim. The extracurricular care offensive was designed and implemented by her, the opening times of the municipal daycare centers were extended to 5 p.m., the work with senior citizens was broadened through voluntary networking and the election of a disability advisory board was implemented for the first time.

Since 2001, Stang has also been a member of the district assembly of the Main-Taunus district .

In 2009 she was elected deputy state chairman of the SPD Hessen with 90.3% of the valid votes and was confirmed in this office in 2011.

Since 2011, Stang has been a member of the regional board of the FrankfurtRheinMain regional association as an honorary councilor .

State election 2018

The SPD constituency delegate conference of constituency 33 Main-Taunus West nominated Stang unanimously in February 2018 as a candidate for the state elections in Hesse in 2018 . The holder of the mandate, Axel Wintermeyer (CDU), was the clear favorite and also prevailed in the election. It was placed 26th on the SPD's state list. Due to the massive losses of the SPD, it did not move into the state parliament. She had already announced that she would not run for election again as mayor of the city of Hofheim. Even after the election, Stang said that resigning from his resignation was out of the question. Pursuant to Section 50, Paragraph 3 of the Hessian Municipal Code (HGO) , a mayor who has reached the age of 50 (and at least eight years of office) is to be retired at the end of the term of office upon his application, whereby the pension will consist of pension deductions of up to 18 Percent decreased.

Positions

Stang names improved conditions in the social area and in childcare as goals. She calls the six-hour fee-free in the daycare centers a "cheap copy of our demand to comprehensively relieve municipalities and parents".
