Gisela Staudigl (* 3. September 1860 in Braunau am Inn as Gisella Anna Maria Koppmair ; † 22. February 1929 in Karlsruhe ) was an Austrian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

The voice of the daughter of a state official developed into a noticeable modulation ability and strength already in her childhood, so that the parents, probably after a long reluctance, decided to have it trained by the Marchesi . The young singer made rapid progress and stood out in her diligent studies with a particularly good memory. She first took to the stage in Hamburg, where she made her debut as Amneris . After working there for a long time, she was committed to the court theater in Karlsruhe (1885), where she trained to be a first-rate Wagner singer. At this art institute she also expanded her repertoire considerably and on September 1, 1887, joined the Association of the Court Opera in Berlin , where she worked for five years in the most honorable way. As early as 1886 the artist was invited to Bayreuth , where she could be seen and heard as Brangäne in the premiere of “ Tristan und Isolde ” (also in the performances of 1889, 1891 and 1892). In 1892 she went on guest tours that not only took her to Vienna, Dresden, Leipzig etc., but also to Chicago (there she also had an appearance with Georgine von Januschofsky at the Columbia Theater ) Milwaukee, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Boston. In 1899 she joined the association of the court theater in Wiesbaden.

Since 1885 she was married to the opera singer Josef Staudigl .
