In the German epic Nibelungenlied, Giselher is the youngest brother of King Gunther ( Gundahar ) of Burgundy . He lives with his mother Ute , his two brothers Gunther and Gernot and his sister Kriemhild , whose darling he is, in Worms .

When Siegfried von Hagen von Tronje is killed with a spear, Giselher is still very young and not involved in the murder.

Nevertheless, he is also killed during the fight in the hall when the Burgundians visit the court of King Etzel . Giselher falls through the hand of Wolfhart, Hildebrand's nephew , whom he himself had previously dealt a fatal blow with the sword.

According to the Lex Burgundionum , in addition to Gundahar, his brothers Godomar and Giselher are said to have ruled as kings in the Burgundian Empire on the Rhine at the beginning of the 5th century , before Hunn auxiliary troops destroyed this 436 and its remaining inhabitants were settled in what is now Burgundy on the Rhone .
