Gitti Pirner

Gitti Pirner (born June 26, 1943 in Immenstadt im Allgäu ) is a German pianist and professor emeritus at the University of Music and Theater Munich (HMT).

biography

Pirner grew up in Sonthofen . She learned to play the piano from an early age, gave her first piano recital at the age of seven and her first Mozart piano concerto at the age of eight . At the age of twelve she played Mozart's 23rd Piano Concerto in A major, KV 488, as part of a solo concert and received positive press coverage from the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung .

Erik Then-Bergh discovered the young talent and from then on gave her lessons in Munich . This was followed by studies in Rome with Guido Agosti , partly also in courses with Wilhelm Kempff , and finally in Geneva with Louis Hiltbrand . In Geneva she won the first undivided prize at the international music competition, and the interpretation prize on her return to Munich.

Pirner taught a master class at the HMT in Munich for 30 years until mid-2013 and holds a visiting professorship at the Zurich University of the Arts . She also led courses in Tokyo and Shanghai and was a juror in international competitions.

Awards

In 2004 Pirner received the Federal Cross of Merit . She has lived in Tutzing since May 21, 1991 and received honorary citizenship there on April 28, 2010.
