biography

Giuliana Minuzzo celebrated her first successes in skiing at the age of 17 (at the Italian championship and at the international Coppa Femina race in Abetone ). Other international successes followed, including three wins (2 × slalom and 1 × combination) at the SDS races in Grindelwald from 1953 to 1961 or a giant slalom victory at the silver jug races in Bad Gastein in 1961.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1952 , Minuzzo took part in all three alpine skiing disciplines and achieved a bronze medal in the downhill . At the Olympic Winter Games in 1956 in her own country, she reached fourth place in the downhill and in the slalom . In the combination , which only counted as a world championship, she won the bronze medal. Four years later, at the 1960 Winter Olympics , she won the bronze medal in the giant slalom . Another international placement was fourth place in the slalom at the traditional start of the season in December 1960 in Val-d'Isère . Chenal Minuzzo ended her career in 1963 with the ninth Italian championship title , this time in slalom. During the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , she held the Olympic flag when Giorgio Rocca and Fabio Bianchetti took the oath.
