Giuseppe Amisani
Giuseppe Amisani (called Vespa ; * December 7, 1881 in Mede , † September 8, 1941 in Portofino ) was an Italian painter.
Life
Amisani was born on December 7, 1881 in Piazza Mercato (Piazza Giuseppe Amisani) in the town of Mede di Lomellina , near Pavia in Lombardy , northern Italy. He studied at the technical institute of Pavia, where he failed the course in technical drawing. He then studied at the Accademia di Brera in Milan under Cesare Tallone and Vespasiano Bignami .
He won the Academy’s Mylius Prize for his painting “l'Eroe” (“the hero”) in 1908 and the Fumagalli Prize for figure painting in 1911 with his portrait of Lyda Borellis . From then on he concentrated almost exclusively on portrait painting; his landscapes of the Italian Alps, Rhodes and Tunisia also attracted interest,
Amisani was internationally famous in his time. He spent several years in Argentina and Brazil, and also traveled to England, France, North Africa and the United States.
He died in Portofino on September 8, 1941 .
