Giuseppe Pace

Giuseppe Pace , English Joseph Pace , (born May 30, 1890 in Rabat , Gozo ; † March 31, 1972 ibid) was a Maltese Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Gozo .

Life

Giuseppe Pace came from a Gozitan aristocratic family whose nobility went back to the Order of Malta . He was the son of Giovanni Battista Pace and his wife Cecilia Pace, a niece of the Bishop of Gozo (1877-1889) and later Bishop of Malta (1889-1914) Pietro Pace (* 1831; † 1914). On June 1, 1890, Giuseppe Pace was baptized in St. George's Basilica in Victoria ( Maltese Ir-Rabat ) .

He received on 20 December 1913, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

He was appointed Bishop of Gozo on November 11, 1944, after his predecessor Michael Gonzi became Archbishop of Malta. He was ordained bishop on December 17, 1944 in the Cathedral of Victoria by the Archbishop of Malta and former Bishop of Gozo Michael Gonzi; Co- consecrators were Emanuele Galea , Auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Malta, and Richard Fitzgerald , Bishop of Gibraltar . Bishop Pace solemnly entered the cathedral of Rabat on April 8, 1945, taking possession of the diocese. He attended the first, second and fourth sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

Giuseppe Pace died in his episcopal city.
