Emanuele Galea (also Emanuel Galea ; born March 10 or December 10, 1891 in Senglea ; † August 21, 1974 ) was a Maltese Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Malta .

Life

He was the youngest son of Joseph Galea and his wife Carmela Camilleri. After school education and the decision to become a priest , he entered the Seminary of the Diocese of Malta and studied Canon Law and Catholic Theology at the Royal University of Malta , where he received his doctorate theologiae . He received on 18 December 1915, the sacrament of Holy Orders . After the First World War he continued his studies at the Gregoriana in Rome. After his return he worked from 1921 to 1932 as prefect of studies and teacher of Latin literature at the Archbishop's Seminary. From 1930 to 1942 he was Professor of Canon Law at the Royal University of Malta . In 1942, Archbishop Mauro Caruana appointed him to the archbishop's curia as general secretary and defender of marriage bonds .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on June 9, 1942 titular bishop of Tralles in Asia and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Malta. He received his episcopal consecration on July 5th of the same year in the cathedral of Mdina - during uninterrupted bombing by the German air force - the Bishop of Malta, Archbishop Mauro Caruana OSB ; The co- consecrator was Michele Gonzi , Bishop of Gozo .

Emanuele Galea participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council between 1962 and 1965 . Pope Paul VI appointed him in 1965 on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the priesthood to the papal assistant throne .

He died in a reputation for holiness at the age of 83 and was buried in Żejtun .
