Giuseppe Vaccaro (painter)
Giuseppe Vaccaro (born December 25, 1793 in Caltagirone , † February 17, 1866 there ) was an Italian painter , sculptor and restorer of the 19th century in Sicily .
Life
In Caltagirone he opened a workshop "Manifattura Bongiovanni e Vaccaro" with his brother Francesco Vaccaro (1808–1882). Numerous altarpieces and frescoes were created under his direction .
The series of altarpieces in the cathedral of Caltagirone is particularly worth seeing .
Because of some similar names, the assignment of his works is not clear in all cases. Ceramic figures in Sicilian costumes for nativity scenes, some of which are ascribed to him in literature, are more likely to be considered works by his namesake Giuseppe Vaccaro (1808–1889).
