Smoothing trowel
The smoothing trowel , smoothing disc or trowel is a tool for plasterers , plasterers , tilers and bricklayers . It consists of an approx. 1 mm thick rectangular stainless steel sheet with a handle made of wood or plastic . The width is usually 13 cm, the length can be between 28 cm and 60 cm.
application
Plaster or filler is applied to walls with a smoothing trowel and then smoothed or textured. When renovating walls, bumps, cracks, joints and holes are filled and smoothed. When filling plasterboard, raised edges are also scraped off after filling. To do this, the smoothing trowel is held steeply (approx. 80 °).

The tiler's smoothing trowel is serrated on both sides (also called a toothed trowel). Rectangular recesses on the sheet steel form teeth, the size of which is given in millimeters, e.g. B. 3 × 3 (fine), 6 × 6 (medium) or 10 × 10 (coarse). With the smooth side of the trowel, the tiler applies the tile adhesive evenly to the wall or floor , then the adhesive is combed with the toothed side of the smoothing trowel. The tiles are inserted into the striped pattern that is created in this way .
The carpenter often uses a triangular toothed trowel or a notched trowel to apply carpet adhesive when gluing carpets .

In addition, a distinction is made for each tooth shape according to the size and spacing of the teeth. Darmit determines the amount and shape of the adhesive to be applied.

Floating boards or grooming brushes, mostly made of wood , are similar in structure and up to about 1.50 meters long . The butterfly is a 30 to 80 cm long sheet metal with a handle. The so-called buckling tooth trowel is a special form . The kinked teeth are used to apply the adhesive easily and evenly.
