features

Adult hot charcoal anemonefish have an orange-red or light red body and fins of the same color. In addition to a morph of the black fin anemonefish ( Amphiprion melanopus ) found in the coral sea , it is the only anemonefish species without white stripes and therefore unmistakable. Young charcoal anemonefish still have a narrow, white horizontal stripe directly behind the eye, which disappears with increasing age. Instead, a black spot spreads from the region below the center of the dorsal fin, which in adults covers almost the entire rear half of the trunk. The fins always stay red.

The dorsal fin has ten to eleven hard and 16 to 18 soft rays, the anal fin has two hard and 13 to 14 soft rays. The pectoral fins are supported by 18 to 20 fin rays. There are 16 to 18 gill trap processes on the first gill arch . Amphiprion ephippium becomes 11 to 14 centimeters long. The length is 1.7 to two times the body height. The sideline is accompanied by 31 to 44 scales. The scaling of the head in the glowing coal anemonefish extends to the front edge of the eye, in the other red anemonefish from the ephippium complex it only extends to the middle of the eye.

The spawn of the hot charcoal anemonefish is red. It feeds on zooplankton .
