The Glanerbeek (German Glanerbach ) is a tributary of the Dinkel . The stream rises in the German part of the Amtsvenn in the Borken district and crosses the border with the Netherlands south of Enschede .

The stream flows through the municipality of Enschede on the Dutch side. In the new development area De Eschmarke between the city of Enschede and Glanerbrug , the brook is part of the biotope network established there .

The brook forms a natural border with Germany along the village of Glanerbrug named after it over a length of approx. 2 km. The Glanerbeek flows into the Dinkel at the level of the Glane settlement .

The Dutch water association Regge en Dinkel has renatured a large part of the stream. For this purpose, the association bought two old meanders separated from the course and connected them to the water system again. Furthermore, a new, winding river bed was dug in some places. A fish ladder , as well as specially walled bank reinforcements with nesting places for kingfishers and sheep stilts complement the efforts to renaturalize.

In 2006 , the Dutch Association for Natural Monuments (Vereniging tot Behoud van Natuurmonumenten in Nederland) created an additional, wider stream along the Glanerbeekweg . In this new part, large areas were provided with rock-like bank reinforcements to prevent soil erosion. Two bridges lead over this part of the Glanerbeek, over which you can get directly to Germany on foot or by bike.

The background of this additional stream is the attempt to settle amphibians , such as frogs and pond newts, as well as rare plant species such as the swamp sword lily , the fever clover and the knotweed , or to secure a habitat for them.
