The Gleislose Bahn Preßburg – Eisenbrünnl was a trolleybus company , called Gleislose Bahn in German-speaking countries at the time , in what was then Upper Hungary . The 5.8 kilometer route connected the city center of Bratislava , then Pressburg or in Hungarian Pozsony , with the excursion destination Železná studienka , then Eisenbrünnl or in Hungarian Vaskutacska , in the Bratislavský lesný park in the Little Carpathians . The city-side terminal was at the main train station, today Bratislava hlavná stanica . Responsible transport companies was the corporation Pozsony Vödricvölgyi Villamos automotive Vonal Részvénytársaság shortly PVAV .

history

The facility was opened on July 19, 1909 and complemented the Bratislava tram, which opened in 1895 but was operated by another company . It was the second trolleybus operator in today's Slovakia after the Gleislose Bahn Poprád – Ótátrafüred, which existed between 1904 and 1906 . The overhead line voltage was 450 volts direct current , the construction costs amounted to 310,000 crowns . The following intermediate stops were served:

  • Cesta na Kamzíkov vrch
  • Cesta k Železnému hámru
  • Horský park
  • Rothova patrónová továreň
  • Kühmayerova továreň
  • Ôsmy mlyn
  • Deviaty mlyn

A trip over the entire route cost 50 Heller , for parts of it only 30 or 20 Heller were to be paid. The trackless railway was built and operated according to the Mercédès-Électrique-Stoll system . As a special feature, it was consistently two-lane, then called the four-wire system . There were turning loops at both end points , so there were no air switches .

Already during the year 1915 had the Trackless Train Bratislava-Eisenbrünnl due to the war again be set after the operating company already announced the disbanding on 4 February 1915th However, since July 31, 1941, the city of Bratislava has had a modern operation with the trolleybus , for which the transport company Dopravný podnik Bratislava (DPB) is responsible today. The destination of the former trackless railway is now served by bus line 43.

vehicles

The vehicles used in Bratislava had, as is usual with the Mercédès-Électrique-Stoll system, a four-wheeled contact cart for power consumption and wheel hub motors . Four open summer cars (numbers 1 to 4), two closed motor cars (numbers 5 and 6) and a catenary truck (number 7) were available. The latter was later converted into a closed motor vehicle for passenger transport, there were no trailers .
