Glen Bell

Glen William Bell, Jr. (born September 3, 1923 in Lynwood , † January 16, 2010 in Rancho Santa Fe , California ) was an American entrepreneur . He founded the Taco Bell fast food chain .

Life

Glen Bell was born in Lynwood, California and attended San Bernardino High School . After completing his military service , he opened his first hot dog stand called "Bell's Drive In" in 1948 , which he sold again in 1952. In addition to hot dogs and hamburgers, he also sold tacos for 19 cents at another stand .

In 1954 he opened three Taco-Tieas restaurants, which he also sold and opened four El-Taco restaurants with partners.

In 1962, Bell decided to sell the El Taco restaurants to its partners and opened its first Taco Bell . The number of restaurants grew rapidly and he sold the chain to 868 stores in 1978 to PepsiCo for 125 million dollars (around 280 million euros ).

Glen Bell died on January 16, 2010 at the age of 86 at his Rancho Santa Fe , California home . He left behind his wife, two sons, a daughter, four grandchildren and three sisters.
