Glenda Adams
Glenda Emilie Adams , née Felton (born December 30, 1939 in Ryde , New South Wales , † July 11, 2007 in Sydney , New South Wales) was an Australian writer .
Life
Adams grew up in the suburbs of Sydney, the younger of two. She attended Fort Street Primary School for two years and Sydney Girls High School for ten years .
Glenda Adams studied Indonesian and Italian at the University of Sydney and graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor with Honors . In the following two years she went on a study trip to Indonesia and, on her return, taught Indonesian at the University of Sydney. In 1964 she moved to New York and studied journalism at Columbia University . 1965 graduated with a Masters .
In 1967 she married Gordon Adams and had a daughter. The marriage later ended in divorce.
In addition to her literary work, Adams was a lecturer at Columbia University and Sarah Lawrence College in New York, as well as at the University of Technology, Sydney .
In 1987 she received the Miles Franklin Award for her novel Dancing on Coral . Her third novel, Longleg , published in 1990 , won The Age Book of the Year award in 1991 from Australian newspaper The Age .
In 2007 she died of cancer .
