Gloria Trevi [ ˈgloɾja ˈtɾeβi ] ( Gloria de los Angeles Treviño Ruiz ; born February 15, 1968 in Monterrey , Nuevo León ) is a Mexican musician and actress . Trevi is considered one of the most successful Mexican musicians who has sold over 20 million records. Starting in 2000, she spent several years in prison on allegations of involvement in an abuse scandal involving her manager and then-husband.

Life

Trevi was born in Monterrey in 1968, the oldest of five siblings. She learned to play the piano and drums from an early age. After her parents separated in 1978, Trevi left home in 1980 and moved to Mexico City at the age of 12 .

In 1984 she met Sergio Andrade there, who promoted her career and later became her manager. Shortly thereafter, she became a member of the short-lived girl band Boquitas Pintadas . After that, she turned to her solo career. In 1989 her debut album ¿Qué Hago Aquí? , which reached number 1 on the Mexican charts and of which a total of 3 million copies were sold.

In the following years four more albums were released, all of which reached number 1 on the Mexican album charts. From 1991 she also appeared in three films as an actress. Her success earned her the nickname Mexico's Madonna .

In 1998 she married Sergio Andrade. In the same year, the reveal book Aline, la Gloria Por el Infierno appeared , in which the singer Aline Hernández , who was previously married to Andrade, reported on his private life. Hernández described Andrade as a sadist who made young girls compliant with promises to become a star and then sexually abused them. She also alleged that Trevi was also involved in these operations.

From 1999 onwards, several of Andrade's previous victims went public with their stories, including Karina Yapor . Trevi and Andrade then went into hiding. In 1999 she gave birth to a daughter in Brazil, who, however, died after a month under unknown circumstances.

In January 2000, Trevi, Andrade and Maria Raquenel Portillo, the singer who was also involved in the abuse, were arrested in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil .

In prison, it emerged that the singer was pregnant again, which Trevi said was due to rape by a prison guard. The Brazilian authorities did a DNA test to prove that Andrade was the father. Trevis' defense attorney claimed the DNA test was bogus. The son was born in prison in December 2002. In the same year she published her autobiography Gloria . Trevis' charges were dropped after nearly five years for lack of evidence and she was released from prison in September 2004. In the same year her new album Cómo nace el universo was released , which again reached number 1 in the Mexican charts.

In 2005 their third child, a son, was born.

The album Gloria followed in 2011 and De película in 2013 . In the same year she took on the leading role in the telenovela Libre para amarte . The reality television series A toda Gloria started in 2014 and shows Trevis' life during the tour for her last album. On January 1, 2015, the biopic launched Gloria of Christian Keller in the Mexican cinema. Sofía Espinosa took on the leading role .

She has been married to the lawyer Armando Gómez for the second time since 2009. She lives in McAllen , Texas.
