The Gnadenthal-Gymnasium (GG) is a Catholic high school sponsored by the Eichstätt diocese in Ingolstadt . Until 2003, the Gnadenthal Abbey was responsible for the school.

history

In 1829 the first monastic elementary school for girls was opened at the request of King Ludwig I of Bavaria . In 1901 the nuns expanded the school to include a private, private teacher training institute. It was not until 1911 that the school for female teachers was also accessible to secular Catholic teachers. Finally, the educational establishment was closed in 1937 by the National Socialist regime and the monastic teachers were banned from teaching. After the fall of the Third Reich in 1945, the Gnadenthal schools were returned to the monastery. As a result, the teacher training institute was reopened in 1946. In 1949 the teacher training institute was converted into a "Oberschule in Kurzform" (entry after the sixth grade of elementary school, after seven years of high school diploma with general university entrance qualification ). In 1954 the “Oberschule in Kurzform” was renamed “Deutsches Gymnasium”, and in 1965 the “German Gymnasium” was renamed “ Musisches Gymnasium in Kurzform”. In addition, the name " Gnadenthal-Gymnasium der Franziskanerinnen Ingolstadt " was introduced in the school year 1965/66 . In 1975 the school last admitted female students in the seventh grade of the short form (seven years) and for the first time female students in the fifth year of the long form (nine years) of the Musisches Gymnasium. After all, in 1987 the nuns took boys into the 5th grade of the grammar school for the first time . In 2002 the Diocese of Eichstätt took over the Gnadenthal grammar school and the Gnadenthal girls ' secondary school . On October 23, 2004 the Gnadenthal high school carried out a pilgrimage to Eichstätt on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Gnadenthal schools.
