Gnathonemus is a genus of freshwater fish in the Mormyridae family . The animals live in muddy and murky waters in Angola , in the Congo river basin , in Lake Victoria and Tanganyika , in the Victoria Nile , in the lower Niger , in the Ogun , Cross River and in the upper Shari .

features

Gnathonemus species grow to be 11 to 36 centimeters long. Compared to other Mormyrids, their bodies are short or only moderately elongated. The dorsal and anal fins are about the same length and face each other symmetrically. The mouth is at the end of the elongated snout. The teeth are limited to a row in the center of the jaw.
