Godehard Joppich

Godehard Reinhard Joppich (born December 10, 1932 in Breslau ) is a former German Benedictine as well as theologian , cantor and professor .

Live and act

Godehard Joppich studied philosophy , theology and church music in Rome and was a monk in the Benedictine abbey of Münsterschwarzach ; there he was first cantor from 1970 to 1989 . From 1973 to 1980 he taught Gregorian chant and liturgy at the Munich Music Academy . 1980 to 1993 he was the first full-time professor for Gregorian chant at the Folkwang University in Essen . In 1990 he left the Benedictine order. Joppich lives today in Rodenbach near Hanau (Hessen).

Godehard Joppich is regarded as one of the most important researchers and interpreters of Gregorian chant in Europe. He is u. a. Co-author of the German Antiphonale von Münsterschwarzach and the Antiphonale for the Liturgy of the Hours .
