Godfrey Hirsch

Godfrey Hirsch ( February 2, 1907 - May 2, 1992 in New Orleans ) was an American jazz musician ( drums , vibraphone , piano ).

Godfrey Hirsch, who was influenced as a vibraphonist by Lionel Hampton , toured early in his career in the bands Louis Prima and Richard Himber. In 1943 he was a member of the Dave Roberts Trio before doing his military service. After the end of the war, Hirsch worked as a studio musician at WWL-CBS for 15 years. In 1960 he became a member of Pete Fountain's band in New Orleans, where he only played the vibraphone. He can also be heard on numerous of Fountain's recordings for Coral Records . In 1964 he presented an album under his own name at Coral, Godfrey Hirsch at Pete's Place , on which Nick Fatool and Eddie Miller also participated. He died in New Orleans in 1992 at the age of 85. Hirsch was involved in 37 recording sessions from 1936 to 1988.
