The Goethův vrch (German: Goethestein; 670 m nm ) is a protected natural monument , which is located in the Czech district of Cheb . The reason for the protection is the bizarre quartz rock , which is formed by a rock formation 400 m long and 10 m wide. This formation is called Goethova skalka (German: Goethefelsen ).
geography
The location is about 3 km northwest of the village Hazlov , on the right side of the Hazlov - Aš road . The natural monument is located on the edge of the forest in the area of the Halstrov Nature Park . A plaque commemorating the stay of the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is located in an area approx. 550 m from the edge of the natural monument.
geology
An asymmetrical ridge rises about 1 km along the road . It consists of Fichtelgebirge granite . The quartz vein protrudes from the rocky ridge above the surrounding surface. The quartz vein collapsed into many bizarre rock formations during the last ice age . There are boulders, rock towers, and rock cushions near the quartz wall. Up until 1946 stone and gravel were extracted here in small quarries. The largest quarry outside the protected monument was in operation until the 1960s.
vegetation
Pine forest islands on the quartz ridge have a natural origin. Pines were supplemented with acidic plants, lichens, and mosses . The outstanding species include the Cladonia arbuscula , the Cetraria islandica and the Dicranum scaparium .
